The Corno da Caccia moves into the
21st Century!
Ivan Hunter and John Diamond M.D. have finished the development work on this new instrument design. It was designed to be an attractive alternative to the Posthorn in Mahler's 3rd Symphony, and the Corno da Caccia in Bach's B Minor Mass.
Here is a link to an article on this instrument which appeared in the Brass Herald in May 2009.
Where the Jaegerhorn differs from the Corno de Caccia is the emphasis on the comfort for the player.
The first impression of the horn is that the bell is upright. Not only does this reinstate the traditional high posthorn playing position, but also it balances the sound to the player's left and right ears.
And the valve cluster is set with the levers horizontal for specific ergonomic considerations. This angle allows the player's wrist to be bent down, The opposite bending of the wrist for extended periods can cause great physical stress.
This Jaegerhorn will be available from mid 2009 selling for $1990 in Lacquer finish.
