Jaeger D and Eb Trumpets

Both the Jaeger D(Db) and Eb(D) trumpets are built on a long bell (to not draw attention from conductors) with an extended lead pipe to help secure intonation. The standard Jaeger platform makes these models essentially large bore Ds and Ebs.

Readers of My Friend the Trumpet will know that the D version of this instrument was born hurriedly one Sunday before I went to a rehearsal. Talk about necessity being the mother of invention!

As well as the intonation advantage resulting from the long lead pipe (with short main slide crook), the main slide and 3rd slide are intercangeable, bringing each instrument down a half step. Thus the Eb becomes and Eb/D and the D becomes a D/Db (or D/C#). This latter configuration makes some excerpts, which might be almost impossible on regular pitched trumpets, an absolute breeze - for example, Capriccio Italienne by Tchaikovsky.

Close scrutiny will reveal a "patch" on the bell throat. We discovered that this extra mass at the exact placement helped the response enormously, and were so impressed with the results that we have freely shared this idea with other manufacturers who have used it on some of their models.
